WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PHYSIO AND CHIRO?
Chiropractors and Physiotherapists are worlds apart but also overlap in some places such as; both treat musculoskeletal conditions, both incorporate various therapeutics such as massage, dry needling, taping etc. and both are highly trained and regulated by their statutory councils.
THE DIFFERENCES LIE IN THAT:
- Chiropractic is a six year masters degree including 2 years of supervised patient visits, a Masters Dissertation and Internship program.
- Chiropractors are able to accurately diagnose almost any condition. The level of study allows all Chiropractors the title of “Dr.,” bestowed upon them by the Statutory council.
- Chiropractors make use of “Adjustments” as part of their therapeutics. An adjustment can be defined as a short-lever, high-velocity and low amplitude therapeutic technique aimed at enhancing neurophysiological function. Extensive training is required to perform this to make sure it is safe and effective. This technique is what gives Chiropractors their “Edge” in conservatively treating skeletal and neuromuscular systems.
- Chiropractors believe not only in the absence of disease, but the maintenance of optimal health and is therefore a “whole body” therapy improving the general well-being of the patient.
IS CHIROPRACTIC SAFE?
Evidence based research shows there is a greater chance of being struck by lightning then suffering from an adverse reaction. It is up to the Chiropractor to accurately diagnose and access for possible contraindications to spinal adjustments.
WHAT IS THE “POPPING” OR “CRACK” SOUND THAT OCCURS AFTER BEING ADJUSTED?
The sound is merely gas moving within the joint. Its an indication that normal range of motion has been restored to a joint that was restricted. THERE IS NO TEARING OR INJURY!!!!
ONCE YOU GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR, YOU HAVE TO KEEP COMING BACK, IS THIS TRUE???
Going to see your chiropractor regularly is like going to your dentist periodically. Like having to keep your teeth cavity –free, spinal health is also part of a normal healthy lifestyle!
